Significant Milestone Achieved in Round Valley Broadband Project

Covelo, CA – The Round Valley Indian Tribes (RVIT) announced the successful completion of tower stacking at two major sites—the Water Tank and Emergency Operations Center (EOC II)—marking a critical milestone in the Tribe’s broadband infrastructure project funded by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA).  During the week of July 21, 2025, a crew of nine erected tower sections and placed communication huts at both sites.  

This progress represents a significant step toward closing the digital divide in Round Valley. Once complete, the project will deliver high-speed broadband to four hundred plus unserved Tribal households, Tribal businesses, and community anchor institutions across the Reservation.

“This milestone reflects our commitment to bringing reliable broadband access to every household in our community. With these towers in place, we are one step closer to ensuring our people can access healthcare, education, and economic opportunities without leaving Round Valley,” said Joe Parker, Council President, Round Valley Indian Tribes.

The broadband project is designed to provide fixed wireless connectivity to serve the members on the Reservation and in the surrounding Covelo community. The towers are engineered to support multiple providers and two-way public safety communications, ensuring long-term sustainability for the community.

RVIT has partnered with EnerTribe, a Native-owned broadband and infrastructure consulting firm, to manage project planning, permitting, and construction.

Crews are preparing to tie in electrical systems and secure the tower sites with fencing. Final testing and service activation are scheduled for later this year.
